January, 2010 - VectorCSP donates free paper to local teachers
Each year vectorCSP strives to give something back to the community in which we do business. For the past three years, we have worked with the Elizabeth City Pasquotank County School District to purchase and provide necessary items that the teachers need for their classrooms, but might not receive without donor assistance.
The needs are always great and the requests are many. This year the most requested item was copy paper. The majority of the 485 teachers indicated they never have enough paper to get through the school year, and often times must purchase additional quantities with their own money.
It was that information that prompted Vector management to offer a case of paper to every teacher in the district. In addition to copy paper, Vector employees also purchased and donated other basic supplies that the teachers needed for their classrooms. All items were distributed from the Standard Tile warehouse in late December.
When the teachers came to pick up their paper and supplies they were given information about another opportunity to receive assistance for their classrooms. VectorCSP was conducting an essay contest for interested teachers.The intent was to award three lucky teachers $2,000.00 worth of equipment or supplies to benefit their students.
The requirement was to write an essay (250 words or less) describing the item(s) one would purchase if they won. The criterion was simple. They must describe:
- The impact the item(s) would have on the students’ learning and educational opportunity
- The area of learning the items would affect
- How the students would grow from the items
- Why Vector should select them; why they would be the best steward of this money
- What their students would miss if they did not receive the item(s)
We received 39 entries. The winners will be announced and the items will be delivered in February.
